Google Launches Free Zone For 'Next Billion Users' Of Internet

Internet giant, Google, to bring a new service called Free Zone. This service is Google's effort to encourage millions of people to access the Internet through mobile phones.

As reported by Reuters, Free Zone services will be launched by Google first time in Philippines by cooperation with one of the operators there, namely Globe Telecom.

Basically, the Free Zone service is designed for mobile users (especially features phones) to access various Google products like search engines, email, and social networking Google+ for free.

Users are also allowed to bring a variety of other sites looking for through the search engine Google for free. However, if users access every site out as search results, they are then invited to subscribe to the data from the mobile operator.

At first glance, the service is as seen as a 'trap' and only benefit the operators. However, users do not need to worry because every user clicks on a site that requires them to subscribe to internet data, the user will be given a 'pop-up warning'.

"It's aimed at the next billion users of the Internet, many of whom will be in emerging markets and encounter the Internet first on a mobile phone, without ever owning a PC," AbdelKarim Mardini, product manager for Google, told Reuters.

Besides the Philippines, the service will be available in other countries soon.
